The Intermission and Eins Gallery present Endangered Games, the solo exhibition of Socrates Fatouros in Piraeus.

In Endangered Games, Socrates Fatouros constructs an environment that encloses images of indeterminate time, a displaced landscape where nature, industry, and memory coexist under conditions of tension and risk.

Industrial materials function as canvases upon which painting emerges through traces, incisions, and burn marks, with every surface becoming a site of transcription and every mark a form of writing. These irreversible gestures reveal the proximity between creation and destruction.

Whether working with bitumen membrane and gunpowder or with more traditional materials such as marble and porcelain, Fatouros activates the artistic potential of raw resources through painterly and sculptural practices. Fire functions not as spectacle, but as a method of inscription, revealing material thresholds rather than representing them.

Engraved across the materials presented in the exhibition are signs of life: plants composed of gunpowder and stainless steel, animal bodies and human parts etched in bitumen. Risk is embedded in the materials themselves, as gunpowder remains perpetually on the verge of explosion and bitumen is flammable. Gunpowder appears not only as a volatile material, but as a suspended condition, matter held in a state of permanent anticipation. Through his interventions, Fatouros establishes markers of coexistence, testifying to what persists despite the constant possibility of disappearance.

At the core of Fatouros’s practice lies an inquiry into the material effects of human imposition on the natural world. Endangered Games is a meditation on traces: what survives, what is erased, and what remains at risk. The artist invites viewers to move through a landscape where memory, material, and time converge in microcosm.
